America's favorite metal – or medal, rather – is on the line for Team USA this afternoon. Who stands in its way? None other than the hosts: the frog eaters, the snail munchers, originators of pompousness and ennui. Oh yeah, and an alien born in 2004 that is somehow already in the conversation for best player on the planet.

France winning today would certainly mark a changing of the guard. Between Wembanyama, Coulibaly, Sarr, and Risacher, the top of the NBA Draft has been less Red, White and Blue and more Bleu, Blanc, Rouge of late. Their time is coming.

But on August 10th, 2o24, the American legends who have dominated the league for the past decade (or two when it comes to LeBron) will have a chance to make their last stand.
