Infinity had a great idea to get a prediction competition going for the upcoming season. The idea is to pick the outcome of every game on the Pacers schedule and see who comes out on top. Y'all know I love a friendly contest, so I'm on board.
I'm creating this post so we can discuss how we want it to work. My first question about the format is whether we want to make all the selections in the pre-season or whether you want up until tipoff of a particular game to get your choice in.
Infinity rightly points out that if we do it in the pre-season, it's much easier. It's a one time thing and then we forget about it for the rest of the season.
If we do it on a game-by-game basis, it's likely that we'll all forget to submit in time for a handful of games. On the other hand, it makes it more of an ongoing competition and maybe adds a bit of strategy to the mix. We all know that between injuries, trades, rest, and myriad of other factors, betting favorites change a million times during an NBA season, so this way would give us a bit more flexibility to adjust our predictions in real time.
The first option is a fun exercise in seeing how the season played out compared to our expectations to start the year. The second option will show how the team played compared to our expectations on any given night. Both sound like fun to me, so vote below on which you would prefer.
The second question is what we want the prize to be. I'm really open here. A jersey was thrown out in the comments and I think we could do a "swingman" version, which doesn't have the stitched letters or numbers. I also kind of like the idea of creating a custom t-shirt for the competition. Maybe we could all vote on a design for one.
Throw out any other suggestions you may have.
P.S. I put these forms in here to help compile responses but definitely voice your opinions in the comments as well so we can get a discussion going.
