Pacer fans are constantly engaged in the hypothetical debate - “who is the face of the organization – Reggie or Tyrese”. I vehemently disagree with both. Nancy is the forever face of the Indiana Pacers. Nancy, longtime wife and partner of Slick died Tuesday night at the age of 93.
Nancy is most famously known for her 1977 “Save the Pacers” telethon, Her astute business acumen led her to become the NBA's first female assistant general manager – a position she held for four years. Her saving the Pacers has been credited for making Indianapolis a sports mecca and revitalizing the downtown area.
Two personal thoughts. I remember Myles coming out to talk to Nancy after knocking out the Knicks and advancing to the finals. That made me even a bigger Myles fan. And secondly, looking for Nancy seated at the beginning of every home game. When I saw Nancy, everything was right. That seat should be reserved permanently.
I'll miss you Nancy. Hope to see you in the rafters soon.
