The Pacers have another bite at the apple tonight in Dallas against the Mavericks. Be prepared, it's a late start due every team playing, with each game separated by 15 minutes.
The Pacers will be looking to wash the taste of losing out of their mouths after falling to injury riddled Pelicans team last time out. The story of the game was a cold streak that spanned the end of the second quarter through the beginning of the third.
Well, actually, the story of the game was Isaiah Jackson tearing his achilles only a few games after James Wiseman did the same. The two injuries combine to leave the Pacers with no center depth behind Myles Turner, who has been struggling with health himself.
While the Pacers have an open roster spot to bring in another center, they are only $2.5 million away from the luxury tax making it a very tricky (and potentially expensive) addition.
On the bright side, Ben Sheppard found the shot that got him drafted in the first round. He buried six threes on his way to a career high 20 points.
Bennedict Mathurin continued his hot start as well, contributing 19 points with a number of timely fourth quarter buckets.
Unfortunately, the efforts of the supporting cast seem to make less of a difference on the win/loss column than those of the team's star, Tyrese Haliburton. The Team-USA-man has been MIA to begin the season and the Pacers are suffering for it. While his play has been concerning, I'm not going to panic about a slump just yet. He's earned a little grace from fans and I fully expect a return to what we saw him do in the playoffs (at least) before long.
