A Glimpse into the Future?
The Thunder and Pacers meet tonight as two teams headed in opposite directions. Unlike the Pacers, losers of 4 straight amidst a slide (climb?) to the top of the draft, the Thunder have a 1.5 game lead on the Mavericks for the final spot in the play-in.
While the standings don't reflect it, the franchises are in remarkably similar situations. Not only are both small market teams that enjoyed a great deal of winning throughout the '10s only for the wheels to fall off in 2020, but both teams are built around lanky, do-it-all phenoms at PG who are raising expectations faster than any of the pundits predicted.
Some commenters have suggested that the Thunder are a year ahead of the Pacers, in which case, we have an exciting season to look forward to next year.
Around the League
Even though many of the games feel meaningless at this point in the season, they all impact the standings. I'll defer to the immeasurable Tony East to highlight what you should be keeping an eye on.
Important games for the Pacers tonight. Beyond their own duel with OKC, they will:
— Tony East (@TEastNBA) March 31, 2023
-see either the Magic or Wizards get a win since those 2 teams play each other
-hope to see Detroit beat Houston, which would help the Pacers chances in keeping HOU 2nd.
