Thanks for bearing with me as I figure out this website business. I feel like things are getting closer to where I want them but there are still plenty of kinks to iron out.

The Comment Section

We're all here for the discussion so I've been on a quest to get a comment section that meets our needs. In the process, I wiped the existing comments on the site and I apologize for that.

It's not really a surprise but what we had over at Vox was a much nicer system and offered a lot more bells and whistles than most of the options available to an independent blog.

Even so, I think I've finally found a good solution. We can now post media and comments should update automatically. The one draw back is that it requires signing in through a separate portal. Candidly, I can add a single-sign-on feature but it increases the price of the commenting platform from $12 a month to $40 a month. It doesn't seem worth it to me, at least right now, but if you guys disagree, please let me know.

While I hope the current system is the final version, I did reach out to the Vox owned platform to see if we could just use the same thing we had at IC (I'd really love to be able to mark comments as read/unread, for example).  They don't list the price on the website so I'm assuming it will be too expensive, but I'll let you know when I hear back.

Site Features

Now that I feel better about the comments, I'm going to focus on trying to make the site more user friendly. I might hire a professional to implement some of the changes, so if there are features you want added or things you want removed, please make me aware of them.

On my radar already is getting a skip to comments button on the top of the post page.

Also, Kahonu asked about opting out of emails. I think a good deal of those were coming from the old commenting platform, so it may no longer be an issue. But either way, you should be able to unsubscribe from any communication you don't want at the very bottom of the email.
